15 Questions with Simon Seyfert
What sparked your interest in racing, and how did you get started?
When I was a little kid, my cousins raced the enduro races at Slinger Super Speedway, and that's when I knew I wanted to race someday. I got my start in racing four years ago. It was 2020, and we went to the races every weekend. We started talking to guys in the pits after the races, asking questions about where to get a car and how long it would take to build one. After many conversations, we had a plan, bought a car, and jumped right into it at the start of the 2021 racing season.
As a racer at Slinger Super Speedway, what makes this track special to you?
This track is special because I have been going to the races there for many years, and its unique style with the high banks always puts on a good show and makes for great memories.
Who has been your biggest supporter or mentor in your racing career?
My dad is my biggest supporter. He is always at the track with us, and he always looks at the bright side of things, even when our nights don't go the best. He always pushes our team to be better at the track and in the shop. He keeps us motivated and reminds us never to give up.
Any pre-race rituals or superstitions you swear by?
No, not now. We do not have any pre-race rituals.
What moment stands out to you most from your racing experiences at Slinger Super Speedway?
Just the atmosphere of the track. Everyone is helpful, and other racers want to help you out to see you do better so that we can all have fun in the end. That will always stand out to me and others at the track.
How did you get your car number?
I was always a fan of Chase Elliot and watched him race in NASCAR. He is number 9, and once we got our car, I knew no other number would suit us better.
If you could dine with any three individuals, alive or deceased, who would they be?
Dale Earnhardt, Donald Trump, Shane Gillis
What different divisions have you competed in at Slinger Speedway?
I have competed in the Sportsman and the Late Model divisions.
How does your role as a Driver at EH Wolf & Sons complement your passion for racing?
I deliver drums of race gas to different racers and talk to them about what they race and what tracks they race at.
What fuel you use to power your car and how have they impacted its performance?
We use Sunoco 110 race fuel, and it has positively impacted us as we have not had any issues with our fuel.
How do you prepare mentally and physically for race day?
On the week leading up to race day, I stay focused, read over the notes for the car, and refresh my memory with what to look for while I am on the track to help find adjustments we could make. I also drink a lot of water the day before race day because it is always hot in the cars, and I have to stay hydrated.
What advice would you give to aspiring racers who are just starting out?
Never give up. Along with the good nights, there will be nights when it is not easy and it is frustrating, but in those times, take it as a learning experience and keep pushing forward.
Looking ahead, what are your goals and aspirations for your racing career?
Short-term goal: win a Late Model feature this year. Long-term goals: win some Late Model championships and get into Super Late Models eventually.
Do you have a favorite race weekend at Slinger Speedway? What is it and why?
My favorite “race weekend” is actually during the week. It is Slinger Nationals. There is so much competition racing for high stakes that they always put on a great show, and it has you at the edge of your seat every year.
What three words would you use to describe your racing style and tactics?
Determined. Focused. Consistent.
